Studio in Creative Crafts
Students began the year transforming trash into treasure.
They focused their attention on detail and stylish design as they rolled paper triangles into beautiful beads. Emphasis is placed on creative recycling of found products. Artists in the class must come up with original ideas to incorporate and transform these materials into viable and marketable works of art.
Studio Art Classes
In the Studio Art Classes this year, we have been focusing on fundamental drawing skills and techniques. These are a few of our class excercises and projects.
Our first exercise was an experiment with various line styles and shapes
Students also learned to improve their observation skills through contour line drawings. They used their own hand as a model, and created several drawings.

Drawing and Painting
Random Acts of Art.
In this exciting and fun first excercise students responded to a series of prompts to stir their creative juices. Each artist was able to create a bold work of art while learning how to apply paint, integrat drawings, and mixed media in a variety of ways. They created layers using a grid and limited palette to build compositional sophistication and emphasis of one focal point. They learned to guide the viewers eye with line, texture and color and explore media. Students increased observational drawing skills while realizing drawing skills alone do not make a successful painting.

Ceramics class
Ceramics Class
Anthony Quiles, throws a pot on the wheel.
Samantha Marabell, with her original chess set.
Cooperative class project, interpretation of Vincent Van Gogh's "White Iris"
Coil Project, Amanda Baker.
From hand building to throwing on the potter’s wheel, ceramics class is always an adventure!
Students master the ancient craft of pinching clay into functional vessels as indigenous people once did on the shores of the Hudson River. Next students use coils of clay to wrap and spiral as they grow like vines, into undulating organic bowls and vases. Slabs of clay are used as tiles to create original murals that decorate the hallways of our school.

Welcome to the 2007 2008 school year. We started Media Arts with Illustrator which is a powerful vector based graphic editor. The project was to create an animal out the students name. Can you guess the animal?
